Facebook-enabling PS3 update goes live; PSP updates with digital comics

After Microsoft rolled out an update to its Xbox 360 dashboard yesterday to integrate Facebook, Twitter, Last.FM and Zune Video, Sony was not going to be left far behind. We have previously covered the expected launch and announcement of the firmware 3.10 update to the PS3, which was reported to bring Facebook integration to the console.
Sony has now made the update official, and it can be grabbed by connecting your PlayStation 3 to the Internet. As noted earlier, it will add a Facebook icon under the (PSN) Account Information category of the XrossMediaBar. Here, the user will be able to add or remove Facebook account information and toggle each of the features listed above.
Other minor changes include improvements to the photo gallery and PSN ID card. The photo gallery will display thumbnails of pictures in a tabular format, allowing preview of more images simultaneously than it currently does. The PSN friends list has been modified and additionally, the update will allow you to change color of your PSN ID on the XMB.
PSP firmware 6.20 brings Digital Comics app
Meanwhile, Sony announced on its blog that the PSP firmware 6.20 update was now also available to users. The biggest selling point of this is the PlayStation Network Digital Comics – a new service launching in December that allows users to download hundreds of classic and new comics from the PlayStation Store and read them page by page or frame by frame.
The PSP will treat the Digital Comics reader ‘app’ as an game, filed under the ‘Extras’ section of the XrossMediaBar. Clicking on the icon opens a browser to a country-select screen where India is, of course, not listed. Comics will be region-locked, it looks like. The service is launching first in Japan with Manga, and in December in the US/UK.
Another new feature in the update allows you to export your video and photo playlists from your PC to your PSP system through Media Go.
